Bin Collection Update

Harborough District Council's bin collection crews have been out this week carrying out scheduled collections, but only where it is safe to do so.

The current situation is that main roads are generally passable; but minor roads are potentially dangerous with ice and snow covering them making access impossible for heavy refuse vehicles and difficult for crews on foot.

However, the majority of bin collections have been completed across the district this week.

Extra resources are being made available and crews will be out on Monday onwards again to catch up. The aim is to have all collections completed next week using additional resources. The improvement in the weather forecast from Sunday onwards should allow this.

Crews will collect any missed bins from Thursday 1 March 2018, (recycling or black bins), on Monday 5 March 2018, or Tuesday 6 March 2018 if not completed on Monday.

Crews will collect any missed bins from Friday 2 March 2018, (recycling or black bins) on Tuesday 6 March 2018, or Wednesday 7 March 2018 if not completed on Tuesday.

Missed bulky waste collections or new / replacement bin deliveries from Thursday are set for Monday 5 March 2018. Any missed bulky waste collections or new / replacement bin deliveries from Friday 2 March 2018 will be done on Friday 9 March 2018.

Residents are being asked NOT to report bins as a missed collection – instead they should leave any missed bins presented and our crews will endeavour to collect.

There will be further updates on the council's website and on social media.

Garden waste update

As the amount of green waste at this time of year is very low, we have made the decision to suspend this service, in light of the recent inclement weather, during the week commencing 26 February 2018 and for all the following week (week commencing 5 March 2018).

These refuse vehicles will then be used to catch up the missed bin collections and, also, assist with the scheduled black bin and recycling bin collections for the week commencing 5 March 2018.

Harborough District Council will, of course, honour the garden waste collections that residents have paid for, by extending the collection period to include the first two weeks of December, (week commencing 3 December 2018 and week commencing 10 December 2018). This will, also, assist with any residents who have leaves still falling at the start of December 2018 following feedback from garden waste collection subscribers last year.
