Would you like to make a difference and be involved in your community? Why not stand for election as a Parish Councillor on East Langton Parish Council?

Elections for Parish and Town Councils are held in May every four years and the next election takes place on 2nd May. East Langton needs enthusiastic and capable people to come forward as candidates to serve their community as Parish Councillors.

Who can stand for election?

To stand for election you must be at least 18 years old and a British, Commonwealth or Irish citizen or a citizen of another member state of the European Union. You must also be on the electoral register for the Town or Parish; or

  • For all of the last year you must have lived in the parish or town or within 4.8km (3 miles) of it; or
  • Worked in the parish or town;
  • Have occupied land or other premises in the town or parish.

You cannot stand at an election if you are employed by the Town or Parish Council, or you are bankrupt, or you have been given a prison sentence of three months or more (even if the sentence was suspended) in the last five years or you have been disqualified from standing by a court or tribunal.

Step 1

Contact the Parish Clerk or Harborough District Council (HDC) Elections Office after 22nd March for a Nominations Pack.

Step 2

You then need to complete the Nomination Paper and get two other electors from the parish to sign it. You will need to enter their electoral numbers on the form which you will find on the copy of the Register of Electors which will be in your Nomination Pack

Step 3

The Nomination Form along with any other forms in the pack for completion must be delivered to Harborough District Council offices by 3rd April at the latest. You have to give the form in yourself, don't ask anyone else to hand it in for you.

Alternatively you can hand the form in at one of the "Check and Receipt events organised by Harborough District Council. The nearest one is at Kibworth Grammar School Hall on 28th March, 4 p.m. to 6.30 p.m. For details of other events see Important Dates below

28th March - Nomination Pack Check and Receipt event, Kibworth Grammar School Hall, 4 p.m. to 6.30 p.m.

1st April - Nomination Pack Check and Receipt event, Lutterworth Town Council, 4 p.m. to 6.30 p.m

2nd April - Nomination Pack Check and Receipt event, Billesdon Village Hall, 4 p.m. to 6.30 p.m

3/4/19 - Close of nominations

4/4/19 - Statement of persons nominated published

2/5/19 - Polling Day
